Company Shop celebrates further success at European Business Awards

Company Shop, which has already been selected to represent the UK as a National Champion in the 2016/17 European Business Awards, is celebrating after achieving the ‘Ruban D’Honneur’ title, in the next stage of the competition.

Company Shop is competing for the Environmental & Corporate Sustainability Award against some of Europe’s best-known businesses and amongst only two other UK companies in the category.

The European Business Awards work to recognise and promote best practice in the European business community. Company Shop was chosen for the ‘Ruban D’Honneur’ title after two phases of judging by an independent panel, which included business leaders, academics and politicians. Meanwhile, the public have been voting for Company Shop to go through to the European finals.

Company Shop is the UK’s largest redistributor of surplus food, which stops over 30,000 tonnes of food from going to waste every year. The organisation takes food from retailers, manufacturers and brands, that is perfectly good to eat, but for a number of reasons can’t be sold on supermarket shelves. Company Shop’s members are able to buy this wholesome food at a fraction of the recommended retail price.

Adrian Tripp, CEO of the European Business Awards said:

“Congratulations to Company Shop who have been selected to represent their country as National Champions.

“They are central to the success of Europe’s strong business community, and have shown the core principles we look for of innovation, ethics and success.”

Company Shop Founder and Chairman, John Marren said:

“We are thrilled to have been selected to both represent the UK in these prestigious awards, and to have received the Ruban D’Honneur’ title.

“Food waste is an issue that is capturing the hearts and minds of people across Europe and we are proud to be providing a solution for UK retailers, manufacturers and brands that enables them to achieve a positive social and environmental impact with food that might have otherwise become waste."

“We have enjoyed sharing our mission as Company Shop through the video, and we look forward to the next round of the judging process. We hope for continued success.”
