Christmas has Arrived at Community Shop!

Across the country, people are coming together to celebrate Christmas - sharing meals, spending time with loved ones and enjoying traditions that make the season special. However, for many people and families on a low income, Christmas can be a time of added pressure and loneliness, rather than celebration.

That’s where Community Shops come in.

Community Shop supports people by providing access to affordable food and essential items to help members make their budgets go further, and at Christmas, provide something just as important: a sense of belonging.

From 16th–18th December, all 15 Community Shops across the UK welcomed members in for free Christmas dinners, serving around 2,500 festive meals. These shared meals offered a warm, welcoming space where people could sit together, enjoy good food and be part of a community.

More than just a meal

For some members, this was more than just a meal. It was an opportunity to break social isolation and celebrate Christmas in the company of others, something many people can’t always afford to do. Sitting down together, sharing stories and enjoying a festive dinner can make a real difference to wellbeing, especially during a season that can feel overwhelming and lonely.

Helping Families Celebrate at Home

Alongside this, thousands of members will also be able to enjoy an affordable Christmas meal at home thanks to vouchers funded by Ocado. Access to festive food helps families maintain traditions, reduce financial strain and create moments of joy around the table, without having to choose between essentials and a Christmas dinner.

Community Shops play an important role in bringing people together, especially at Christmas. By creating welcoming spaces, offering practical support and fostering connection, they help ensure that everyone has the chance to experience the warmth, community spirit and togetherness the festive season is all about.
