Small Changes, Big Impact: Let’s Make Zero Waste Week Count

Zero Waste Week has arrived and here at Company Shop, we're all about saving perfectly good food from going to waste. It's what we do every single day. But this week, we're going the extra mile and shining a spotlight on even more ways we can all reduce waste – starting at home.

Because let’s be honest: a few small changes really can make a huge difference.

Here are some easy, creative tips to help you waste less and do more with what you’ve got:

More Taste, Less Waste

Think those veg peelings or onion skins are destined for the bin? Think again.
Bake onion and garlic skins until they’re crispy, then blitz them into a punchy seasoning that adds serious flavour to your cooking. And don’t throw out those carrot or potato peelings – toss them in a little oil, salt and pepper, roast until golden, and boom: homemade zero-waste crisps. Perfect for lunchboxes, snacking, or sharing (if you can bear to!).

Give Back to the Earth

Got leftovers you really can’t salvage? Composting is a brilliant way to reduce landfill waste and give something back to nature. Food scraps can be turned into rich, nutritious soil for your garden – and coffee grounds are especially great for your plants. They help boost growth and even keep slugs away. Who knew your morning brew could moonlight as a gardening hero?

Plan Like a Pro

Meal planning isn’t just for the ultra-organised, it’s one of the easiest ways to cut down on waste. Batch cooking helps you use up ingredients while saving time (and money!). Plus, freezing leftovers means nothing goes to waste – just label your containers clearly and defrost properly before eating. Not sure what’s safe to freeze? Head to the Food Standards Agency website for some helpful guidance.
